Sports Premium

Sports Premium

The purpose of the PE and Sports Premium Grant is for schools to use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport we offer.

This means that we should use the premium to:

✅ Develop or add to the PE and sports activities that our school already offers
✅ Build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

As a prerequisite for receiving this funding, there are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:

✅ The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.
✅ The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.
✅ Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
✅ Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
✅ Increased participation in competitive sport.

In the academic year 2018/19 the allocation for our school is £17720

This grant will be used in school in a number of ways to impact on pupil opportunity and attainment, these include:

Continue to develop our active playtime provision, potentially through the use of specific, child friendly, cardio fitness equipment.
Continued focus on developing the general fitness and health of the children, including the above fitness equipment, links with Wigan Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles to develop a Change for Life/Let’s Get Movin’ club, Five Minute Fitness break in the afternoon and re-launching our Virtual Challenge activities.
Continue to offer children access to activities they may not normally access; including re-visiting sailing (due to pupil demand!), climbing, archery, assault courses etc. Include KS1 in these opportunities and/or seek alternatives for younger children.
Invest in a new curriculum scheme which better suits the needs and skills of our pupils, incorporates modern teaching pedagogy and links to our PSHE curriculum.
Incorporate the new competition calendar levels of competition into our selection of pupils for events, enabling a wider range of pupils to represent school.
