Overview

We are very proud to say that St Catharine’s was grading outstanding in our last SIAMS inspection in April 2016.

The inspector highlighted that ‘The outstanding and distinctive Christian ethos permeates all aspects of school life and has an important and affirmative impact on pupils’ personal and spiritual development. This is evidenced in excellent pupil behaviour and relationships.

He also commented on ‘The exemplary Christian leadership of the Headteacher ensures that the school’s Christian character has a strong impact on pupils’ academic achievement and spiritual growth’.

He enjoyed our worship and said in our school we had ‘Inspiring and inclusive daily worship is central to the life of the school. Its quality and vibrancy have a significant contribution to pupils’ spiritual development. Strong links between school, home and the local churches, underpinned by gospel values, provide a positive Christian witness in the wider community.’

Intent

Our RE curriculum is designed to be distinctive and ensure our Christian values are deeply embedded in our daily school life. Our staff and governors use these core gospel values by example which is seen through our excellent quality of relationships between all members of the school community. This, together with the emphasis on caring for others, ensures we make an exceptional contribution to the pupils’ social and moral development.

Implementation

Religious education lies at the heart of our school curriculum. The focus on high-quality teaching has a significant impact on pupils’ spiritual, moral and cultural development. The governors have adopted the Liverpool agreed syllabus of Questful RE which reflects national guidance. We also use the ‘Values for Life’ in our daily and class worship.

Impact

Impact is clear in the way our children live their lives through out Christian values and how this permeates in everything they do. Our outstanding SIAMS report confirms the great teaching that goes on here at St Catharine’s. We are very proud of our school and how it is helping our children to become great Christians.
