Year 4
Hi everyone, well the weather hasn’t been as glorious this week, has it? I’ve been having to plan our walks around the weather! I do hope you have had a lovely week with your families 🙂
Here is what we will be covering this half term: Year 4 – Weekly Learning Overview v2
For Summer 2, our topic should have been Abracadabraaaa! (all about magic and things changing), so home learning logs will contain activities linked to this AND topics we have covered in school. Remembering to retain our sticky knowledge that we have already learnt!
Maths
This week’s focus is Addition and Subtraction. I know we have recapped this at the beginning of our home learning journey, but it is a vital skill to all mathematics. So, it is important to consolidate. There are a variety of Addition and Subtraction fluency questions, then for a little bit of an extra challenge (I KNOW you all love a challenge) there are two pages of reasoning and problem solving this week!
Below are the videos for addition and subtraction to help remind you of the method!
Maths Addition

Year 4 – Maths 8.6.20
As you had all been working extra hard on your arithmetic skills, I have created an arithmetic paper for you to work through at your own pace. If you would like a challenge, set yourself a 20 minute timer.
Arithmetic 8.06.20 10
Extra Challenge: If you fly through these, I would like you to use all of the skills we have recapped recently (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to create a worksheet that I could complete!
English
Reading
Recently, you have worked considerably hard on a variety of different question types – well done Year 4. Over the next coming weeks, we will be putting all these skills together to complete a reading comprehension. Remember to apply all of those skills you have been practising!

Year 4 – Reading 8.6.20 – Questions
Year 4 – Reading 8.6.20 – Questions ANSWERS
Year 4 – Reading 8.6.20 – Table ANSWERS
Writing
This week’s focus is recapping compound and complex sentences! We have covered these before in our home learning journey, but it is really important to our writing that our sentence structures are very clear.
Year 4 – Writing 8.06.20
After last week, you deconstructed a setting description through a narrative. I would like you to have a go at re-writing the beginning of the ‘The Midnight Fox’ focusing on describing the setting. Remember to create your own success criteria, to include all of the Year 4 content you have learnt so far.
