To continue out topic of ‘People Who Inspire Us, Reception had a visit from Jess, Lee and their guide dog, Elky!
Reception were mesmerised to hear all about Elky, and how inspirational she is. Here are some facts that we learned today about Guide Dogs:
- They work until they are 10 years old.
- Guide Dogs are worth around £56000, but blind and visually impaired people pay just 50p for their dog.
- The dogs and owners are matched to one another, they take into account lifestyles, personalities and hobbies!
- The local Guide Dog school is in Atherton, just down the road!
- The families who train the dogs, also take dogs in during their retirement.
We are so grateful to Lee and Jess for their time, and as a class we cannot wait to think of how we can raise money for the Guide Dogs and their amazing work!
