Year 2: Home Learning Week 3

Hello Year 2,

I hope you are again all well, and keeping safe at home.  The weather hasn’t been quite as nice this week, so we have spent lots of time inside.  I did have some lovely news this week that one of my best friends had a little baby girl.  She has called her Lottie and she is beautiful. :).  I hope you are all enjoying the home learning.  I read some fantastic stories on Dojo last week, and my socks were blown off! There has been lots of Reading and Maths going on at home too, so a huge well done! ✨

Reading: Week 3

This week, we will be using our retrieval skills to draw a picture. There is a video link below to show you what to do. We did this in the Autumn Term when we were looking at ‘Where the Wild Things Are!’ You will read the description and use the nouns and adjectives to draw a picture. Lastly you will label the picture with the different adjectives. It is based around a monster again. I have added an extra challenge, which is for you to write a description, and I will draw your monster at home and send it back to you via Dojo or Messenger. I have also attached some ideas for adjectives and features to help you! The videos are not that long, but for some reason I had to upload it separately!

Maths: Week 3

This week, the focus of Maths is to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. I know you are all absolutely *fantastic* at this because we do it every day! I have attached the links for the Jack Hartmann songs! You can also use the BBC Supermovers too. Use these to get you recalling the different facts and then complete the activity.

Writing: Week 3

Now we have recapped word classes, we are going to move on to revising simple sentences – a group of words that make sense together, about one idea only! I have based this week’s writing activities on space, as I know we all really enjoyed learning about Neil Armstrong.

The main activity this week is based upon a story on Oliver Jeffers – The Way Back Home. You will need to watch the video before watching my tutorial.

A young boy builds himself a rocket and sends himself off to Space.  He lands on a far away planet.  His spaceship breaks down, a friendly alien lands and he breaks down too.  The little boy parachutes to earth to get some tools to fix the ship.  He gets back by way of a huge ladder, fixes the machines and then they both fly off. Again, the videos aren’t that long!
