Hi Year 1. We hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and ready for a new week. We have loved seeing the work that you have been completing at home, it really does keep us smiling.

English

This weeks book choice is one of our favorites, The Day The Crayons Quit. In this story a little boy called Duncan just wants to colour in. But when he opens his box of crayons, he only finds letters, all saying the same thing: We quit.

Beige is tired of playing second fiddle to Brown, Blue needs a break from colouring in all that water, while Pink just wants to be used. Green has no complaints, but Orange and Yellow are no longer speaking to each other.

Here is the story to read and watch. The-day-the-crayons-quit

We have taken some of our favorite letters from the story and written some true or false questions for you to answer. Reading Comprehension 04.05.2020

Writing

As the story is full of letters, we thought you could do some letter writing. In your writing pack, there are two templates to complete. One letter is from a crayon, you can pick a crayon from the story, or create a new crayon. The second template is a letter from Duncan, you can write a letter as Duncan to one of the crayons asking for forgiveness. Writing 04.05.2020

Phonics

Here are some useful websites to help with the teaching of phonics and reading at home.

Oxford Owl have lots of eBooks for your children to read. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/

When you click on the link below, to help children learning to read at home during school closure, Read Write Inc are streaming 7 phonics, reading and spelling lessons every weekday on their YouTube channel.

Maths

This weeks Maths activity is – To Order Numbers. This work builds on their knowledge of place value. Children need to apply their knowledge of tens and ones to help them within the abstract. For example , when they are comparing 15 and 27, 27 has 2 tens, therefore it is the bigger number.
